What makes someone a good leader? There are many different takes on this question. Some may say that it’s all about charisma, being loud; others might argue that it’s about providing great incentives or doing things their way. Luckily, there are some qualities that most people would agree make someone an effective leader- and these qualities can be learned with time and effort.
1. Understand your subordinates well enough to develop trust with them, and they will do the same for you.
Talent is the most important ingredient in a leader’s success, but it takes time and effort to cultivate an environment of collaboration, trust and mutual respect. Often, leaders get more from their subordinates than they give because of this lack of understanding- so be sure to take the time to get to know them well enough.
2. Be friendly, but not too friendly.
