We’ve all been there, feeling lost and unhappy because of a situation that we can’t seem to change. Maybe it was the relationship you chose, or the way your parents raised you. Maybe it is something that must ultimately be accepted as part of our lives. Whatever the cause, it feels like there is no way out for us.

It can be hard to accept your unhappiness when it has become so all-consuming. I felt this way for years when I was a hostage in my own life. I can remember wishing that I could be a normal person and have a normal life, with a man who loved me not someone who I had to beg to stay with me.

I’ve found out the hard way that acceptance is the key to your happiness, not just in the end but for now as well. Accepting what is gives you energy to move on and make things better for yourself.

Accepting what is can give you the courage to move out of the situation. It doesn’t mean that you have to like it, it just means that you have become stronger, more willing to fight.

Let’s say you are stuck in a bad relationship, or find yourself in a position where all your choices stem from fear and unhappiness. Here are some things to do…

1.Stop trying so hard (you will probably win anyway).
