When we smile at someone, their brain releases dopamine which makes us feel good. The same goes for a smile directed at us. This is why we often feel more positive about ourselves after someone has smiled at us.
It’s the same effect as when you go to do something and you meet another person doing it too. Even if you don’t interact with each other, you both know that another person is involved and it makes you feel good.
