Thanks to the stigma around mental illness, many people don’t know how to recognize the signs that they need help. Mental health is just as important as physical health and yet, we still fail to prioritize it.

This post will help you tell the difference between someone who just needs a hug and someone who needs professional intervention. You might find that these behaviours are more common than you think — or you might realize that your friend or family member’s behaviour is disturbing and needs attention from a professional.

Begin by avoiding judgement and remind yourself that you don’t know what circumstances brought them to this point.
