You know what they say: to each their own. What gives you a moment of zen may not work for the person next to you.

That’s why we’ve compiled this list of 11 different ways to find those few fleeting seconds of peace so that everyone can find their proverbial happy place.

We also want to share with you what not to do if your goal is a moment of zen so as not to inadvertently sabotage yourself and your well-intentioned efforts.

How To Find Your Zen

1. Be still.

We’ve all heard it before. It’s great advice, but sometimes it’s easier said than done. Many people find that the only time they are truly still (or even close to it) is when they are asleep or at work.

If you’re lucky enough to find some time between meetings, riding on the subway, or whenever you can, practice being absolutely still for 10–15 minutes minimum.

You can also do this while you’re working if you have a job that’s somewhat sedentary, like many of us do nowadays (you tell me who has an honest-to-goodness office job these days).

If you’re that kind of person who can’t be still at all, then you need to start training yourself to be still.
