10 Mistakes You Might Be Making With Small Talk

Small talk. It’s often necessary in social settings and it is also a great icebreaker. But as we have seen, it can make or break your chances with someone you are flirting with. Let’s be honest, there are plenty of mistakes that might happen when you’re talking to someone to try and figure out what they like, what they need, or just trying to impress them. Here are ten mistakes you might be making while having small talk:

1. You’re talking about the wrong things

A common mistake that’s made is talking about yourself. This makes you seem self-centered and not interested in what the other person has to say. You might also be tempted to talk about your accomplishments, your goals, or past stories that have nothing to do with them at all.

If the conversation starts turning into a bragging contest, that’s a failure of small talk and you should maybe try again later. Never initiate small talk while there is silence.

2. You’re asking the wrong questions
