Hallucinations are hallucinations. Are you awake or are you dreaming? Hallucinations are a type of hallucination.

You can’t tell if your hallucination is real or not, but it could be the result of imagination, drug usage, sleep deprivation, brain damage — or just purely metaphoric.

There are some people who say hallucinations only happen to other people and that they themselves have never experienced them — and it’s true! I know several individuals who have never had anything like this happen to them before in their lives.

So let’s take a look at some hallucinations you can experience on your own, on your time! Here are 10 of them:

1. Ghost Smells

Yeah, you read that right. Not only can you smell ghosts, but you can also add taste to the mix by noticing things that do not exist.

In 2011, a woman from Australia had ghost smells occur multiple times in her home while no one else was there. Other reports have reported the smell of a distant train or a rotting body nearby while no humans were nearby.

But a great story is a great story and it’s said that some people have actually had the smell become so strong it inhaled part of their lung tissue. This has not been proven.
