Tired of the real world? Ever dreamed of a society where you can do anything and go anywhere without ever leaving home? The latest incarnation of this idea is called the Metaverse. This term is a combination of “meta” and “real,” meaning that it’s not just an imitation or copy, but a radical improvement on the reality that promises to enhance all forms of communication, from email to video chat.
In this article, we’re going to explore examples from across pop culture exploring what the Metaverse might look like in 10 years' time.
1. Transporters & Teleportation
This is probably the most common way that science fiction authors envision the Metaverse. Put simply, you’re going to be able to teleport all of your stuff from one place to another instantly and be able to visit anyone else in your virtual world without being limited by physical distance. The closest thing we have to this is currently networked gaming, which has some of the same key features.
